College Wardrobe Staples
If you are a college student, you most likely don't want to be spending all your money on clothes. When I got to school as a freshman last year, it was a rude awakening realizing that most of the clothes I had brought, probably were never going to be worn. I eventually learned that in order to have the most ideal wardrobe at school, I had to switch up my shopping habits and figure out what I truly needed, before cluttering my closet with a bunch of random things. Here are my top picks for all the clothes you must have to survive college.
Pick a pair of black jeans with either a wax coating or some simple rips to wear out any night of the week & pair with any top.
Despite the weather at your school, most people end up needing some type of rain jacket during the year. When picking one, lean towards a neutral color such as navy, black, silver, or white.
A black platform boot is another essential item. They can be worn out in every season with a skirt or pair of pants, and be dressed up or down. Pick a cheap pair because they will get dirty!
A band T-shirt or any type of graphic Tee is a great item for going out or even going to class. You can tuck it into a skirt with your platform boots for an edgy ensemble, or throw it on with some leggings & sneakers for a casual daytime look.
Whether you have an unexpected date party, or just feel like dressing up one night, you need to have one pair of heels that dresses up your outfit. Pick a pair that is on-trend, but classic, so it can be worn with any dress, skirt or even a pair of jeans, like the ones shown here.
I'm sure you already have a pair of leggings lying around, but I encourage you to go and find a durable pair that will last you a long time. I always lean towards a sporty brand so that I can work out in them or wear them when it's cold.
Aside from sports bras, which are also extremely important, having a good amount of bralettes is even more essential. I wear these during the day and at night, and am able to repeat them multiple times before washing them (we all know laundry can be a struggle).
My #1 most worn item at school is without a doubt my New Balance sneakers. I wear them as a fashion sneaker with leggings & a sweater to class, but can easily throw a workout top in my bag and transition into a gym outfit in seconds. Sneakers are a must.
If you are in a time-crunch before going out, a bodysuit is always an easy solution. You can pretty much throw this on with anything, and you can dress it up with necklaces and accessories, so there is barely any thought required. This item is also an easy item to repeat without anyone noticing since it is simple and can be paired with so many different things.
