Staying Fit Without the Bordeom

I am the type of person that gets bored very easily, and so it is extremely important for my fitness routine to stay fun and interesting to avoid that feeling of dread when it comes to my workout. I like to mix up what I do, keeping in mind what I love and what I really dislike. My routine consists of a couple off-days a week because I think everyone needs time to rest, especially me being in college, but I do like to get some type of activity most days even if it's just for 20 minutes. Here is a mix of some of my favorite workouts from school and from home!

 

HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training is my all-time favorite workout, because it burns the most calories and fat while giving you tons of strength in a very short period of time. When it comes to HIIT, you are truly taking advantage of every second and not wasting any time. Steady-State Cardio: Steady state cardio is also an important thing for me, but I don't enjoy most cardio workouts. For me, riding the bike on hills for 30-40 minutes is my favorite way to get my cardio in for the day and I really get a sweat out of it. You can also do the treadmill or a combo of both, but I am a big believer in staying away from the elliptical because it doesn't really help tone or work any specific parts of your body, it is more of an empty calorie burner.

Cycling: I personally love to ride the bike in the gym or at home, but cycling classes are also one of my favorite group classes to take. If you like to be challenged and work out in a fun and lively atmosphere, then I would recommend trying out a cycle class.

Kickboxing: At home I tried kickboxing a couple times and absolutely loved it. The workout is amazing and it combines cardio and strength at the same time as teaching you a lot of great new skills. When I get home for the summer and on break I definitely plan on doing a lot of kickboxing.

Yoga: Although yoga doesn't give you the craziest workout in the world, it does help your body in a different way. I have never tried hot yoga, but I love doing regular yoga videos in my room when I need to relax. I think this workout is great for someone who wants to focus on toning and stretching, just like pilates, but in an even more relaxing and mindful way. In the future, I really want to do hot yoga so that I can be more focused on my mind and body while also getting a really great workout in.

Pilates: On my more relaxed workout days I will do pilates because it doesn't entail some crazy workout, but it does help tone and stretch your body as well as making you sweat. Usually I will spend 15-20 minutes doing pilates and sometimes if I do HIIT I will do pilates afterwards to help cool off but still burn more.
