My Current Wellness Routine

current health and fitness routine

I know it’s been quite a minute since I last wrote, but I have been settling into school, social life, and new routines.

If you are a consistent reader, you probably know that the last year was pretty difficult for me. If you haven’t read about it, you can read this and this to get caught up.

After going through a lot of ups and downs with my anxiety, my body image, and my weight, I am really happy to say that I feel happier, more stable, and more motivated than ever. I also want to mention that I don’t write about these extremely personal topics just for fun. I write about them because we all tend to put on these facades that we have it together, when the majority of us are struggling with at least one thing. This is just a reminder to take every post you see on social media with a grain of salt, and to remember that everyone is on their own journey with ups and downs just like you.

I am extremely happy to be back into a more consistent health and fitness regimen after struggling for some time. With slow and steady work, I have been getting back into my favorite practices, and learning to love them all over again which has been so fulfilling for me. With that said, today I want to dive into my full self-care routine with you, and hopefully help anyone who might be struggling to come back from a tough time or break.

I’ll be taking you through the 3 main categories I’ve been focusing on, which are Fitness, Health (Intuitive Eating), and Mindfulness. For me, these are all things I have gotten off track with, and in time have been slowly trying to rebuild. If you’re someone who is going through a similar situation, don’t feel pressured to work on everything at once. My best advice is to focus on one thing at a time and take it slow. Being hard on yourself is only going to make it harder to get back.

Anyways, let’s get on with the post…

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading!
PS. Which aspect of life are you currently working to improve? Let me know in the comments below :)

intuitive eating

Food is an important aspect of life to me because it determines my my mood, my energy, and is also meant to be fun! Over the last few months, I’ve been re-learning the concept of intuitive eating and referring back to my book for reminders and tips- learn more here.

The main things I’ve been doing to practice eating intuitively include-

  • Paying close attention to my hunger signals- hungry, full, neutral, satisfied, unsatisfied

  • Eating meals without distractions such as TV, computer, or phone. This allows me to taste the food and really get a feel for what I like and don’t like.

  • Eating a combination of foods that nourish my body and feed my soul (without any guilt attached)

  • Allowing myself to make choices based on what I want rather than what I think I should have (click here for my other posts about Intuitive Eating)

  • Cooking my own meals as much as possible whether it’s learning new recipes or making my usual favorites (click here to see some of my original recipes)

fitness

I would definitely say fitness has been the hardest aspect to get back on board with. It is super easy to get out of shape, but thankfully, it doesn’t take too much time to get back in the groove. I started out just working out here and there this summer, then it became once to twice a week. Since I’ve been at school, I’ve aimed for 3 minimum workouts a week.

The workouts I’ve been doing include-

  • HIIT (high intensity interval training)

  • Steady state cardio (walking on treadmill with incline, cycling)

  • Weights & body-weight exercises

  • Occasionally- yoga & pilates classes

I really haven’t been too harsh on myself regarding how many days a week I do certain exercises, because I feel that I work harder and am more motivated when I choose the workout I’m in the mood for that day. If you aren’t currently in a consistent regimen, I suggest writing down a list of workouts you could do, then choosing which one sounds best each day. You can start by picking 2 days a week, then growing from there. This is a great way to discover new workouts without overwhelming yourself with a specific routine.

mindfulness

For me, mindfulness includes a bunch of different aspects that all are equally important to me. The reason I care about staying mindful is mainly because of my struggles with anxiety throughout my life. I started meditating and practicing other types of mindfulness as young as 9 years old, and have never stopped since. It helps me cope with life’s struggles and allows me to separate myself from reality for a little while. I practice at least one form of mindfulness every day.

The practices I do daily include-

  • Nightly meditations via the Simple Habit app

  • Reading on iBooks- I’m currently reading The Sun and Her Flowers

  • Writing songs and journaling

  • Listening to relaxing music

Thank you so much for following along with me & I can’t wait to hear about what you’ve been practicing! Feel free to always share in the comments, via contact form, or over Instagram.
